My Native Forest began with an honest question — how to incentivise the planting of more native forest in New Zealand?
Sensing there was a market solution to this problem, we set about investigating the current plant-for-profit landscape, finding two critical problems:
1) schemes that used carbon trading to facilitate planting were complicated and off-putting to a majority of investors;
2) the upfront cost of planting native forests is high, and the time horizon for recoupling these costs.
As a team, we set about creating a solution that would satisfy these two questions.
