Fabulous Fungi in Nelson’s Brook Waimārama Sanctuary [Video]

At nearly 700 hectares, Nelson’s Brook Waimārama Sanctuary is the largest fenced sanctuary in New Zealand’s South Island and home to a growing variety of flora and fauna, including over the last few years, a burgeoning population of the endangered Kākāriki karaka or orange-fronted parakeet.

Meanwhile, closer to ground level and free of the pests that can degrade this zone, the forest floor is rich in life, including a diverse array of fungi – some quite rare – which delight and fascinate.
