We provide a place for the community to grow food together and appreciate the natural environment. Volunteering here is a great way to meet people, develop your gardening skills and learn about sustainable living.
With our fantastic team, we grow flowers and produce, which anyone can enjoy for a donation.
You can support us by:
– Joining as a volunteer
– Picking your own fresh produce from our garden for a donation
– Buying our quality seeds, preserves and home made compost from our shop
– Visiting us on Market Days to enjoy our harvest
– Bringing your green waste for us to take care of
Our Story
The Christchurch South Community Gardens began developing in 1999 on a bare Christchurch City Council site on Strickland Street, Sydenham. The gardens are the principal project of the Christchurch South Community Gardens Trust.
Other projects include community education, local waste management, public speaking, growing heritage plants, seed saving and more. The site consists of a recreational area, vegetable and flower gardens, a shade house, glasshouse and resource centre.
