The Nelson Nature project has announced a partnership with DOC for the first three years of it’s 10 year plan.
Launched last year by the Nelson City Council the project:
…builds on the conservation and ecological work the Council currently carries out for both public and private land. It focuses on a much more extensive and targeted approach to care for our region’s natural environment, working alongside community groups, landowners and organisations.
According to a Nelson Mail article, “The council and DOC have signalled their intentions to continue working closely with local environmental groups.” and quotes Nelson Mayor Rachel Reese: “Nelson’s compact size, coupled with the partnership, meant Nelson Nature had the opportunity to be one of the most “holistic, all-encompassing” biodiversity projects carried out in the country.
“We are thrilled to have the Department on board.”
