Restore Natural NZ
We're donating 20% of all new listing subscriptions to the Brook Waimarama Sanctuary in Nelson.
Launched in 2004 the Brook Waimarama Sanctuary is a community powered project centred on 715 hectares of former Water Reserve.
Most of the site comprises mature beech forest and the occasional large podocarp.
Over 250 species of plants have been recorded and the bird-life includes rare species such as NZ falcon, yellow-crowned parakeets, weka and robins.
Key to the project is the 14 km pest-proof fence which will enclose the area and allow the eradication of the pest mammals within it.
The goal is to create a sanctuary where resident birds, reptiles and invertebrates can flourish and species previously lost from the area can be re-introduced.
